High voltage power line project ready for review

Author: Date:1/8/2014 6:19:05 PM

The draft environmental impact statement for a high voltage power line project through the Black Hills National Forest is ready for public review and comment. A public meeting will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hell Canyon District Forest Service office in Newcastle.

The project proposes a high-voltage electric transmission line from northeastern Wyoming to the Rapid City area in South Dakota. The line would connect the Teckla Substation in Campbell County to the Osage Substation in Weston County and the Lang Substation in near Rapid City.

This transmission line would strengthen the transmission network, improve transmission system reliability, and help meet future demand for electricity and economic development in the region, according to a release from the Forest Service.

It would cross private, state, national forest and BLM lands.
